The irony is rich. One is reminded of the Bastiat theme on that which is seen and that which is not seen. Here in microcosm is an example of this.

There had been only eight recorded sightings of the white-throated needletail in the UK since 1846. So when one popped up again on British shores this week, twitchers were understandably excited.

A group of 40 enthusiasts dashed to the Hebrides to catch a glimpse of the brown, black and blue bird, which breeds in Asia and winters in Australasia.

But instead of being treated to a wildlife spectacle they were left with a horror show when it flew into a wind turbine and was killed.

Back in CONUS, where our miles of “killer windmills” in Oklahoma and elsewhere have been spinning for years, killing everything that flies into them, creating nothing energetic to speak of, yet a tad closer than a solitary scene spoiler in the Hebrides –– “What Would the Founders Think?” indeed. Methinks this strayed a little off the subject. Ben Franklin, Toms Jefferson & Paine had their own special love of gadgets and wheely things that went against traditional ways. They also drank a lot and sniffed stuff –– except Jefferson who was too ethereal and practical to get high all the time.
