Despite Mr. Obama’s efforts to the contrary – today is not a day for service to the government. Two years ago, our Dear Leader decided to do what he could to water down the emotion associated with loss of 3000 innocent Americans at the hands of (largely) Saudi terrorists.
Toward that end we now have Public Service Announcements being promulgated on the air waves suggesting that we go give blood, say nice things to a policemen or firefighter, and volunteer to make 9/11 a day of service. The government has even set up a tax-payer funded website for that purpose, with the ironic name – SERVE.GOV. I’m not making this up. From the website:
The President is calling on all Americans to participate in our nation’s recovery and renewal by serving in our communities. There are many ways to get involved. America’s new foundation will be built on one community at a time – and it starts with you.
While volunteerism is laudable, that is not what 9/11 is about. Neither is serving the government.
The MSM is on board with the political correctness program being peddled by this administration. Their carefully scripted used of accepted language, their avoidance of film-clips and disturbing pictures, and their insistence on blaming Bush are all part of the program. This morning, President Obama’s water-carriers at NPR featured an interview with an author of a new book accusing Bush of negligence. Convenient timing. If we have to come to terms with it being an attack (it is 9/11, after all), then it must have been Bush’s fault.
By all means, show reverence and appreciation for first responders, not just on 9/11, but every day. By all means volunteer somewhere, if you like. But let us never forget what happened 11 years ago was not an accident. It was an attack by people who hate the United States and all it stands for. We cannot dismiss our enemies and pretend that everything is fine. They still hate us, and they still mean to do us harm. Whether the Left will acknowledge it or not – we are at war.
Remember 9/11.
A day of service? I think not.
