Two hours of reading here, but worth the time, if you have it to spend. This week, we’ve got political snark and satire, some great American history, and even some Constitutional analysis from Publius Hulda. And if you’re feeling really cerebral, read our favorite pagan’s thoughts on Egypt.
Good folks, good stuff.
Will you choose to live your own life and allow others to live theirs, or will you use the power of government to force your neighbor to please your desires.
That is what you are voting for this November, and the result will tell us all who America sees when it looks in their mirror.
Barack Hussein Obama the most ideologically rigid President in living memory proved it this week with his desperate campaign message of the week (only approximately 16 weeks more to go, thankfully). He is in the electoral battle of his political life, and this week he trotted out the tired old soak the rich Progressive pitch.
The running rhetorical gun battle I had with my house troll Ema Nymton, on the comment thread to my April 25 post (Were All Mittens Men Now) is instructive.
Click the two images to embiggen. Note: the Peter and Paul roles are reversed, but that kinda makes my point, doesn’t it?
Bulgarian media on Thursday named the suicide bomber who blew up a bus full of Israeli tourists, killing five Israelis and a local bus driver, in the Black Sea resort of Burgas on Wednesday as 36-year-old Mehdi Ghezali.
From now until 2018 there will be 20 new or higher taxes thanks to the Affordable Care Act, which is also known as Obamacare. So far it looks like Obamacare isn’t too affordable. Here are the five new taxes that will hit your wallet in 2013.
Evil acts against innocent people will not be stopped and will only worsen unless if good people rise up to make it stop.
Banning certain types of weapons or accessories won’t address problems like the Tucson shooting. There are already laws on the books about selling guns to mentally unstable people. It’s a knee jerk reaction. The legislature would do well to see why this unstable man wasn’t referred for a psych evaluation before he ever hit the sporting goods store.
Barack Obama, at a campaign stop in Roanoke, Virginia on July 13: Here is the full context of what he said:
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
Even though Leftists such as Obama scoff at the idea that the
Laffer Curve actually works, there is a real life example demonstrating the concept happening today.
The gun control vultures are once again attacking the Second Amendment, suggesting that more restrictive laws haven’t proven a bad thing, which in turn implies that the Founders got it wrong. They would have us entertain the point that we’re being childish to dismiss discussion on the issue.
The image of Obama can be treacherous for the inexperienced. During an Obama speech his rhetoric of hope and change will physically create a bright ring (â€annulus“) around the President that is most dangerous. Your eye will be fooled by the relative darkness of President Obama’s profile but this dangerous “annulus†will appear and before you know it you are swooning from his hope-filled rhetoric and fainting will ensue.
This is brilliant! (Pun intended.)
The term “Flash Mob†was originally coined to describe an innocent form of entertainment and were decidedly non-violent. That is not what we think of today when we hear or read those words. Today those words immediately bring to mind black youths converging on a store to rob it and yes to terrorize the customers and employees. And, far too often, it also describes black.-on-white violence. Hence, Dr. Sowell’s assertion that these actions are in fact race riots. But, could they be classified as terrorist attacks?
President Obama wants to increase taxes to what he says is only the top 2% of tax payers. The truth is that the top 2% of taxpayers represent 91% of all the income produced by all businesses in the country paying taxes as individuals. And furthermore, these same businesses create 63.7% of all jobs in the economy.
The more things change, the more they stay the same…
A homicidal maniac took the occasion of a premiere showing of the new Batman movie to sneak a gun into the theater and murder 12 people.
Needless to say, the left was quick on the draw, with the reliably partisan Brian Ross linking the shooter, James Holmes, to the Tea Party. Of course.
Here’s another striking entry from Col. Henry Knox’s earliest regimental orders, preserved in the Gershom Foster orderly book at Anderson House in Washington, D.C. These words come from a long entry on 11 Feb 1776 and shows how Knox viewed the ideal army: as a Grand machine with A number of nice wheals working in sync. I don’t think of Knox as the best engineer or field-artillery commander in the Continental Army, but he proved to be an excellent military administrator who could keep that machine running.
Cool stuff – one of several interesting articles Revolutionary War General Henry Knox.
Remember the BS “projects†that the porkulus funded? Like, Turtle Tunnels, fish sperm storage, and curb cuts where there were no sidewalks? Well, James O’Keefe, the man who helped bust ACORN, has exposed some union shenanigans. O’Keefe formed a fake company, who’s specialty is to dig holes, and fill them back in.
Hilarious video
Most Americans don’t have the benefit of Swiss Bank accounts or tax shelters in the Cayman Islands or Bermuda. But, then again, most Americans don’t care so long as it is legal.
Regardless of your beliefs, Americans don’t begrudge those who have made it, either on their own or through benefit of their family’s past. Americans simply want the chance to make it on their own, and share a little something with their children
With the passage of the FAA Reauthorization Act the federal government approved the funding for 30,ooo drones to be used on American soil to spy on law abiding United States citizens by the year 2020. These drones will be used by the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Agriculture, and even on some college campuses.
In an earlier post, we noted the failure of yet another green energy boondoggle, the Harry Reid-backed Amonix, a solar company in Nevada.
Well, lo and behold, look who is involved!
In her recent
Quick Hit, the carefully crafted language of the daily fish wrapper’s editorialist/columnist Linda Valdez conceals far more than it reveals. But know this: it’s simply another attempt at usurping power from the citizens. Currently, the liberal focus is on the
deceptively named ballot initiative Open Elections/Open Government intending to gut the election system and replace it with a
“top two†scheme†What its proponents are hoping for is that the two top candidates are Democrats.
Arizona residents must continue having their taxpayer funds going to the Planned Parenthood abortion business while the lawsuit it filed earlier this week continues.
Ben Quayle refuses to answer question about embryonic stem cell research, ducks question about prohibiting abortion except to save the life of the mother. Quayle was also known not too long ago for refusing to take a stand on the issue of gay marriage.

There is a growing movement in my state of North Carolina, as well as other states, to Nullify the federal healthcare bill. The Supreme Court’s disingenuous decision to uphold the Individual Mandate as a valid exercise of the Congress’ taxing power has evidenced an unwillingness on any branch of the federal government to honor the sovereignty of the individual. The decision clearly puts our country on the dark path to government tyranny.
I have been meaning to look into this after reading about the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions recently …
“Sometimes when I’m in a big important international meeting and you see me writing stuff down it might be that I’m just drawing some folks.†— Barack Obama (Obama Doodles During “Important International Meetingsâ€)
Word arrived yesterday from Jim DeMint’s (R-SC) office that four more Senators had signed on to the letter opposing ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) written by DeMint and James Inhofe (R-OK). The latest four, Mike Johanns (R-NE),Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Rob Portman (R-OH) andJohnny Isakson (R-GA), bring the total number of Senators opposing LOST to 34. Neither Senator Corker or Senator Alexander from Tennessee were among them. The 34 figure is significant because treaty ratification requires a 2/3 majority in the Senate; 67 votes. With 34 Senators on record as opposing LOST it means the treaty will not be ratified this year. DeMint’s notification of crossing the threshold for preventing the ratification included several bullet points as to why LOST is a bad deal for the United States. These points have been out there and well known for years. President Reagan had the opportunity to sign it and, while there were many good things he could find in it, rejected it bluntly, forcefully and publicly.
You need to read the story that goes with this picture…
There has been yet another terrorist attack, this time carried out against a bus carrying Israeli tourists in Bulgaria. The terrorist shot at the bus, and threw an explosive device at it. Reports say that four people were killed, and many more wounded.
Remember Munich 1938!
Any citizen who even thinks about voting for Obama, the American Chamberlain, in November needs their head examined. After war broke out, Chamberlain was attacked by all and sundry, Lord Halifax took a step backward, and everyone understood that there was only one man capable of leading Great Britain in a time of war – Winston Churchill.
America – Where is your Winston Churchill?
I woke up this morning to make breakfast, pulled out a loaf of bread that I bought with the money that I earned from my labor and efforts, sliced the bread- and then was amazed to find that Obama was wrong and that someone else didn’t make it happen… I call this one ‘Obama Makes Sliced Bread Happen’…
While the Catholic Church has paid out millions of dollars to victims of child abuse, it will be the taxpayers in the state of Pennsylvania who will have to foot the bill when the civil lawsuits start pouring in.
What an idiot. (CP Europe) –A teenager was captured on video Friday [July 20, 2012] yelling “Allah hu akbar,†God is great in Arabic, while trying to snatch the Olympic torch from a runner as the flame made its way to London for the start of the Summer Games.
Below are some recent Civil War recoveries while metal detecting in a river in the Southeastern United States – a couple of 58 caliber Confederate Gardner’s, a 44 caliber pistol bullet, and a couple of musketballs, along with a lead “net sinker”, used to keep fishing nets on the bottom of a river. The water keeps them from oxidizing and turning white like the ones that you typically see on display or for sell. I’ll have a new video to post at some time in the future.
Is that some Conservatives, whom I agree with on issue after issue, have a lack of understanding about the War Between the States, the causes of it, and the history of it.
In the afternoon of November 5, 2009, Nidal Hasan decided to take matters in his own hands and avenge what he perceived to be wrongs done by the United States Government. As a member of the United States Army, he managed to get into the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Processing Center, carrying a weapon, which was prohibited. While shouting “Allahu Akbar†he opened fire on the men and women waiting in the room.
Our Framers had no need to define “natural born Citizen†in the Constitution, because by the time of the Federal Convention of 1787, a formal definition of the term consistent with the new republican principles1 already existed in Emer Vattel’s classic, Law of Nations.
HENRICO, VA The Board of Supervisors meetings in Henrico County will no longer begin with a prayer, as they have in the past. The Freedom From Religion Foundation received a letter from a non-county resident who’d attended a meeting and wrote that they found the prayer to be offensive. The foundation sent a letter to the Board requesting they no longer begin meetings with a prayer, saying sectarian government prayer is unconstitutional.
There’s no need to pray, it’s divisive, embarrassing. It really isn’t the government’s job to get involved with religion,” said Annie Laurie Gaylor from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
After receiving the letter, the Board said they would stop praying before meetings.
With the Olympics about to start, the United States team might look to members of the gun control lobby for possible track medalists. The speed with which these people got to media cameras and microphones to exploit the Colorado killings for political advantage was remarkable, leaving intelligent minds to ask the question ancient Romans would raise: “Cui bono?”
Celebrities can mock and ridicule Jesus Christ, Christians, and the Bible, and it’s called freedom of speech or comedy. Christians can voice a biblical opinion, and it’s called “hate speech.†Now, Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy is in trouble with pro-homosexual bloggers, celebrities and organizations who are calling on customers to boycott this “discriminatory†company for Cathy’s statements on marriage.
Gotta go get some Chick-fil-A
The headline says it all: Report: Striking SEIU workers attempted to harm CT nursing home patients.
After the collapse of 17-month-long union negotiations on July 3, unionized health-care workers walked out of five nursing home facilities in Connecticut, but not before placing some elderly patients in dire medical risk through acts of sabotage, according to the company that owns and operates the facilities.
And, as a quick reminder: Barack Obama has stated repeatedly that “the SEIU agenda is my agenda.”
Every year we take a picture of the kids and turn it into a Christmas card for family and friends. This year we may include the cat. We won’t be sending a few dollars to the Obama campaign to have his mug inserted into the card, but you can if you send him a few bucks. Really. iOwnTheWorld has a screen shot of Obama trying to insert himself into your personal moment. Just think, you, too can have a holiday card that looks like this: There’s more where that came from. Update: The Pirate’s Cove linked, and unfortunately for all of you Obama fans, the contest has ended. Tweetvaso link
Kate Zernike of the New York Times: TRENTON — To measure the decay here in New Jerseys capital, residents could have counted the unfilled public pools, the shuttered libraries and police stations, the block after block of boarded-up stores and homes. But they did not need to go that far.
ABC is apologizing for an “incorrect†report that James Holmes had connections to a TEA Party (aka Taxed Enough Already Party). “An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect,†ABC News said in a statement. “ABC News and Brian Ross apologize for the mistake, and for disseminating that information before it was properly vetted.†ABC They found the name “James Holmes†on a TEA Party website.
No need to check further. Never miss a chance to smear.
No sooner had Muhammad Morsi, Egypts new Islamic Brotherhood president, assumed office than he showed that he was not a figure to be taken lightly. The parliament, dominated by his Brothers and dissolved earlier this year by court order (for this read army order), had to be reinstated, he decreed. The following day he changed his mind. His office, he said, would respect the courts decision because we are a law based nation. In other words, he is a figure to be taken lightly.
The Obama Administration has a one-size-fits-all solution for our nation’s problems: put more people on welfare! We’ve just seen moves like running radio soap operas to encourage people to sign up for food stamps and claiming the right to waive welfare’s work requirements.
Does the Bible give guidance on civil government? Is civil government ordained by God, or is it a purely manmade thing? If it is from God, then what is its role and purpose?
“Voter fraud” is individuals casting ballots knowing they are not eligible to vote, in an attempt to defraud the election system. Note that there are a great many things that tend to get lumped into the term “voter fraud” which are really not the same thing: voting machines sometimes have technical glitches and don’t record votes properly; voters and election officials, being human, sometimes make honest mistakes; sometimes outside groups spread disinformation about polling places and hours; incidents of thuggery and intimidation are not unheard of. These are all election administration problems to be sure, but conflating them as “voter fraud” makes it appear that real fraud is much more common than is actually the case.
James Callender was a muck-raker.  In his biography of Alexander Hamilton, Ron Chernow describes him as a “hack writer“, an “ugly, misshapen little man who made a career of spewing venom.† He spent most of his life doing it and, as we’ll soon see, his life ended in muck.  That’s the kind of guy he was.
States could dodge a key part of the health care reform law because of a little-noticed mistake in the lengthy bill, according to a white paper by conservative health care experts Michael Cannon and Jonathan Adler.
We talk about it. We celebrate it. We claim to cherish it and yet many people don’t understand it. I’m talking about liberty. Here we are moving towards the high-water mark of the election season and our President is attacking and dividing our country instead of promoting liberty and freedom. Hes talking about Romney and his time at Bain Capital. Hes calling him a felon. Hes talking about raising taxes on the evil rich. The Democrats in congress have even threatened to drive America off the fiscal cliff if the Republicans don’t give into their demands. Hes bashing the free market, bashing the successful and bashing individualism. Lets face it Obama clearly favors more control and less liberty. He wants more control over our economy, more control over our energy production, more control over our money, more control over our daily activities and more control over our healthcare.
