Some Things You Just Can’t Make Up

Here we have our Commander and Chief Incompetent outsmarted by Vladimir Putin thanks to the bumbling of Sec of State John Kerry. Obama’s recent speech about Syria was uncharacteristically brief and unlikely to persuade the nation that he actually knows what he is doing. His message in brief was that military action against Assad is vital, but not now. Congress should delay voting until Putin negotiates with Syria. That should take at least until the bodies are buried and no longer featured on the evening news and a new “crisis” like gun control or free preschool absorbs Obama’s and the media’s attention. Then Syria can fade away in the fog generated by endless diplomacy.

But don’t despair, Susan Rice was called upon to reassure the American public that Obama intends to enforce the red line that he now says he didn’t draw and will implement an “unbelievably small” military response …(John Kerry’s words) sooner or later. Now those are fighting words if you never heard them. After all, the Great One  said there was  no rush after John Kerry said there was.

You remember Susan Rice don’t you? She was the woman who went on TV five times to reassure the American people that Benghazi was all about a reprehensible video that angered a few malcontents.

That Rice was chosen to defend the latest administration debacle is astonishing.

Then there is the whole scenario of Vladimir Putin coming to the rescue.  He’ll make sure those poor misunderstood Syrians turn over all their chemical weapons.  The Syrian government is overjoyed with National Reconciliation Minister Ali Haidar calling it “a victory” and thanking Russia.  Meanwhile, Syrian troops are playing a shell game with the chemical stocks, scattering stock piles around the country to make them difficult to locate. And Obama is claiming a great diplomatic break through. It only looked like he didn’t he didn’t know what he was doing, it was all part of his brilliant plan.

Some things you can’t make up.

A couple of additional points:

1) Obama claimed his credibility wasn’t on the line. And that, I think, is true. That horse left the barn about 4 years ago. One can’t lose what has already been lost.
2) Presumably, Susan Rice was planning on reviewing all of the movies playing at the Damascus cineplexes to determine which one to blame the whole Syrian fiasco on. My guess is she would have picked the movie about that boy band One Direction. It is, no doubt, reprehensible.
3) And Kerry…his credibility is now “Unbelievably small.”

In August, Obama said in a PBS interview that we “have to make sure that when countries break international norms on weapons like chemical weapons that could threaten us, that they are held accountable.” Who knew that in Obama speak, that meant give Assad a free pass?

The whole Syrian debacle I liken to a mom threatening her son with, “Just wait ’till your father gets home! You’re going to be in big trouble!” Of course, the son knows that when dad gets home he is going to eat dinner and watch a basketball game on TV.
